Each pills corresponds to a puzzle piece, all the puzzles on the same board put together can make a complete animal puzzle. Parents can make a deal with kids to encourage them to keep expectations and collect puzzles. This helps to better kids' medication experience.

Unique Properties

This is a medicine package design based on the characteristics of puzzles games. A board have four pills, each pills corresponds to a piece of puzzle, all the puzzles on the same board put together can create a complete cute animal. Parents can make a deal with their kids: for every pill they take, they get a piece of the puzzle. This reward system helps to enhance children's medication experience, make child more willing to cooperate with the treatment and relieve family stress.

Production Technology

It is mainly composed of plastic, aluminum foil and TPU.

Design Challenge

1. In the design process, the most difficult thing for us is to conceive the small animal shape on the pills board. For personal design style, we hope that when the puzzles from the pills board are put together, they can create a small animal full of geometric sense, but also meet the aesthetic experience of children, without losing cuteness and color. In addition, when the puzzle is scattered on the pills board, we also hope that it can roughly form a harmonious and regular rectangle to achieve a coordinated aesthetic feeling. Based on this, we conducted a lot of research and sketch deduction. We first investigated and summarized many animals and their characteristics. Second, we kept sketching on paper to try to divide their shape into four parts and geometrize them, and to arrange them into a rectangle with as few gaps as possible. In this way, after the selection of some animals was excluded, we selected three animal puzzle styles with the best visual effect with each other based on how the puzzle looks when they‘re put together. 2. The packaging design of the pills board is also a difficult point. Because our design is the main entry point clever, so we do not want to use ordinary packaging mode. After many investigations, we chose the present effect, which can make it easier for people to open and close and integrate the instructions into the package.

Project Duration

The project started in August 2024 in Zhengzhou and finished in September 2024 in Beijing.

Operation Flow

1. The child gets sick and needs to take medicine for a period of time according to the treatment course. 2. According to the tear marks on the medicine board, parents tear off a piece of puzzle-shaped medicine board with a single pill. 3. Separate the top puzzle layer of the board, tear the aluminum foil, and take out the pill. 4. Give child the pill and reward him with a puzzle to collect. 5. Kid put all the puzzles from the same pill board together to get a cute animal puzzle. (The specific reward agreement can be flexible by parents)

Research

Our main research program is the pills board design for kids, the goal is to improve the medical experience in children's treatment course through emotional design, so that kids are less resistant to taking medicine. In design process, we conducted interviews and surveys, and decided to start from the perspective of "collection and reward mechanism". After a large number of desktop and second-hand research, we got the prototype of the current project, and further analyzed many cases for further improvement. We also used hard cardboard with high gram weight for prototype testing, and made the designed jigsaw to verify the feasibility. This study can effectively improve children's medical experience, relieve parents' pressure, promote doctor-patient relationship, and create a more caring social medical environment for kids.

Inspiration

We observed that most of kids had the experience of not taking medicine well with the treatment course. Moreover, we also found that kids are often attracted to specific color and shapes, fun interactions and progressive reward mechanisms. Based on these phenomenon, we redesigned the package of the medicine, breaking away from the traditional cold and impersonal package, and incorporated puzzle games and cute animal shape that kids enjoy, trying to use an innovative way to reduce kids' fear of medicine, shifting their attitude, making them less resistant to taking medication.
