Production Technology
This product is manufactured by die-casting molding using the aviation alloy material , and CNC precision milling processing molding. The surface is processed through sandblasting, oxidation.
Design Challenge
In this project development, it was a big challenge to popularize parametric tools to the design team. Persuading the design team to use a new tool can feel like a drag on the overall project. But after learning about the new tools and the new ways of working mode brought by the new tools, we got the support of the whole team.
Project Duration
The project started in March 2017 in Beijing and finished in September 2018 in Beijing.
Operation Flow
One side of the top of the business card box is the movable shaft, which can be opened by the user to put their business card into. The other side is a fixed part with the same shape. User can easily push the name card out and pass it to the other side by using double thumbs in manner.
Research
In the design of this product, we studied the application of parametric design in the product. We used grasshopper, a plug-in of Rhino software as our main tool. The introduction of parametric design improves the efficiency of communication between designers and increases the speed of design iteration.In the design of "empty" business card case, the main surface of the product adopts parametric diamond-shaped stereogram, which decreases from the edge to the middle. Firstly, its unique mathematical beauty enhances the visual recognition of products. Secondly, the gradual change decoration pattern with rhythmic sense makes people can't help touching it, which increases the tactile experience of the product. The three-dimensional decoration pattern has directivity, which provides the basic functional coordinates for the product.
Inspiration
The design of the name card box breaks the feeling of mediocrity and cheap, let the ordinary things have a decent body. In the Internet Ages, using a name transfer ceremony and boundary information than the online social app, also have better information integrity. While the name card box have the DNA of internet which put the information in the first place. The design of this pen display the industrial beauty.

Empty Card Case has been a Iron winner in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design award category in the year 2019 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition.
