This is a Home Fragrance range including essential oil holders, incense burners and candle holders. The project combines NIO’s Blue Sky Coming vision with modern Scandinavian simplicity and usability, aiming to create a simple product which can be placed anywhere in the home. Each product uses the same beautiful pebble form and slightly adjusted, makes this a versatile design, simple to produce and with room to expand. Simple yet nature shape highlights the details of pebble form and also fragrance.

Design Challenge

The challenge in the design process was how to make the fragrance last longer. Through researching materials and carrying out tests, the designer chose to concentrate on using Porcelain to absorb the essential oils, in order to keep the fragrance for a longer period of time. These pebbles can also be portable and used as car fragrance.

Project Duration

Started in August 2018, first sale in February 2020.

Operation Flow

All users need to do is very simple. They should just place fragrance items on the products. The products add joy and relaxation for users both at home and during travel. Further, it can be placed as decoration on tables or bookshelves.

Research

As a group we spent time researching NIO’s values and what might fit in with their company brand and vision. My role throughout the group work was to research climate change, sustainable materials and ethical practice within ceramics. This research later influenced my choice of using natural air purifying materials, such as Bee’s Wax Candles and White Sage incense - both proven to remove toxins from air in the home.

Inspiration

Inspired by the Blue Sky Coming vision, the product aims to create a picture: Being on the beach, where the air is freshest and you can almost taste the sea. Spending time outdoors, picking up pebbles and feeling the physically comforting stones. The products enable users to sense sea at home and convey the concept that people all breath freely and run happily under the blue sky.

Project Overview

Nio X Csm Ceramic has been a Iron winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change. These designs are a testament to the skill and dedication of their creators, showcasing their ability to address real-world challenges through thoughtful design.
