Pages pillow is comprised of three pieces of pillow cores with different materials and partition designs. Three pieces of pillow cores are connected in a S type way. Multiple combinations and five kinds of comfort can be realized by all sorts of folding, so as to fulfill users' various demands of comfort of pillows. It is inspired by users' personalized demands of pillows in different seasons. As seasons change, users may need to sleep on pillows with cores of different materials for comfort.

Unique Properties

Wishes Pillow (Pages) is comprised of three pieces of pillow cores with different materials and partition designs. Three pieces of pillow cores are connected in a S type way. Multiple combinations and five kinds of comfort can be realized by all sorts of folding, so as to fulfill users’ various demands of comfort of pillows.

Production Technology

These three pieces of pillow cores are also three modules that are respectively filled with 95 percent white goose down, latex particles and antibacterial fibers, and mulberry silk. According to ergonomics, three modules adopt 3D filling which feature comfortable support. The outer fabric is made of pure cotton with a warm feel and Tencel with a cool feel, delivering a more delicate hand feel and a safer use experience.

Design Challenge

To highlight reasonable functions, the pillow is divided into three parts, a warm comfort layer, a cool comfort layer and a support layer. By folding in different ways, users can choose the most comfortable layer. The cool comfort layer is made of mulberry silk, suitable for summer, while the warm comfort layer is made of goose down, suitable for winter and people who like soft pillows. It’s suitable for spring if users put the cool comfort layer on top. Otherwise, it’s suitable for autumn.

Project Duration

The project was launched in Shanghai in March 2019, completed in August 2019 and presented in Shanghai in September 2019.

Operation Flow

These three pieces of pillow cores refer to a cool comfort layer, a warm comfort layer and a support layer. The cool comfort layer is comprised of mulberry silk, suitable for summer, while the warm comfort layer is comprised of goose down, suitable for winter and people who like soft pillows. It’s suitable for spring if users put the cool comfort layer on top and put the warm comfort layer in the middle. Just reversing the position of these two layers enables the pillow to be used in autumn.

Research

The designer proposed a new method to change the function of the pillow by folding. Mulberry silk with good breathable performance forms a cool comfort layer to meet users’ needs in the hot and humid summer. Meanwhile, goose down can ensure great warmth in the winter. The support layer is mainly made of natural Thailand latex particles which can strongly support the cervical spine.

Inspiration

It is inspired by users’ personalized demands of pillows in different seasons. As seasons change, users may need to sleep on pillows with cores of different materials for comfort.

Project Overview

Pages Pillow has been a Iron winner in the Furniture Design award category in the year 2021 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution.
